Tracking a Permit
Add permits, keep their status up to date, and plan their milestones.
Add a Permit
On the project page, click New Permit, choose the permit type and enter the issuing agency. The phase (zoning or plan check) is set by the permit type. You can add several permits at once with Add Another Permit.

Keep It Up to Date
A new permit starts as Draft. When it moves forward, open the permit and click Edit Permit to change its status. This is also where you add the permit number once the agency assigns one, the fee amount, a description and the expiry date.
Status History
Permitful records every status change, and the permit page shows when the permit reached each status and how long it stayed there. If a date is wrong, for example because you updated the permit a few days after it was submitted, use the menu on that entry to Edit date. To undo a status set by mistake, choose Remove entry. The permit's current status can't be removed: change the permit's status first.
Expiry Dates
Set Expires on in the edit permit dialog, using the date printed on the permit or application. From 30 days before, the permit shows how many days are left, and your home dashboard lists it under Expiring Permits. Extend it with the agency and update the date, or set the status to Expired.
Plan the Milestones
Milestones are the dated steps in a permit's process: submittals, plan check corrections, hearings, approval and inspections.
Add Standard Milestones
Click Add standard milestones on the permit page to add the usual sequence for that permit type, such as plan check or a public hearing. Choose a start date, usually the day the application is submitted, and each milestone is dated from it. Pick the ones you want, then edit any of them afterwards. Milestones the permit already has are skipped.
Add Your Own
Click Add Milestone and enter a name and due date. You can also add:
- Private notes, which only you can see.
- Private milestone, which keeps the milestone off the client dashboard.
Mark milestones complete as you go. Your home dashboard shows overdue, today's and upcoming milestones across every active project.
Add a Milestone to Your Calendar
From a milestone's menu, add it to Google Calendar or Outlook, or download it as an .ics file. With Pro, you can instead subscribe to all your milestones at once.
